FIBERSHED LEARNING CENTER - TALK & DEMOS
Shoes: components, repair, and making your own from scratch with Rachel Corry
In May of this year, I went down to the FIbershed Learning Center to demonstrate a grab-bag of tricks to initiate you into the wide world of shoe construction. This 3-hour video includes:
• Looking at examples of deconstructed shoes, factory made shoes, and handmade shoes, and discussing how and why they were made in a particular way.
• Talking about the various components that make up a shoe, and which items you might use for a shoe project of your own. Materials, sourcing, and tool advice.
• Demos of stitching leather to leather, adhering leather to leather, cutting leather, cutting rubber, etc.
• How to drape straps over your own foot as you begin a pair of sandals, an ideal first project.
In order to further support Fibershed’s educational programs, the class video is now on demand.
